Answer

A response to a divorce petition  ( www.practicallaw.com/3-536-1349) (also known as an application for a matrimonial order ( www.practicallaw.com/4-535-4895) ) if the divorce is being defended.

A respondent who wishes to defend the divorce proceedings must file and serve an answer within 21 days beginning with the date by which the acknowledgment of service must be filed (rule 7.12(8), Family Procedure Rules 2010) (FPR). Once an answer is filed, the proceedings become defended (FPR 7.1(3)).
