In Edray Limited v Canning [2015] EWHC 2744 (Ch), the High Court considered a receiving party's appeal against the order of a District Judge setting aside a default costs certificate. The key issue on appeal was whether the paying party was estopped from relying on defective service of the notice of commencement of detailed assessment as a basis for setting aside the certificate.
