Commission consults on maritime transport guidelines

On 13 September 2007, the European Commission published for consultation draft guidelines on the application of Article 81 of the EC Treaty to maritime transport services. The draft guidelines set out the principles that the Commission will follow when defining markets and assessing co-operation agreements in various maritime transport services sectors (namely liner shipping services, cabotage and tramp vessel services). They are intended to help undertakings and associations of undertakings operating those services to and/or from ports in the EU to assess whether their agreements (technical agreements, information exchanges and pool arrangements) are compatible with Article 81.
