Administration (of a deceased's estate)

The process starting on the date of the deceased's death and ending on the date the deceased's affairs are finalised by his personal representatives ( www.practicallaw.com/resource.do?item=:42617136). During the administration period, the personal representatives gather in all of the deceased's assets, pay all the debts of the estate ( www.practicallaw.com/2-382-5620) (including any inheritance tax ( www.practicallaw.com/3-382-5648) ) and then distribute the estate in accordance with the deceased's will ( www.practicallaw.com/resource.do?item=:42379240) (or any deed of variation ( www.practicallaw.com/resource.do?item=:45258381)), or (if there is no valid will) in accordance with the intestacy rules ( www.practicallaw.com/resource.do?item=:42448594).
