Agri-environment schemes

Land management schemes under the Rural Development Programme ( www.practicallaw.com/9-566-2325) which offer payments for farmers and land managers who manage the land to protect and enhance the environment and wildlife. Scheme participants enter into voluntary land management agreements.

In England, Natural England ( www.practicallaw.com/3-566-2408) administers agri-environment schemes on behalf of the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

Examples of current and closed agri-environment schemes include the Environmental Stewardship Scheme, Countryside Stewardship, Environmentally Sensitive Areas, Organic Farming Scheme and Glastir ( www.practicallaw.com/3-600-3977) .
