Birmingham City Council's decision to end funding for voluntary legal advice services quashed (High Court)

by PLC Public Sector
In R (Rahman) v Birmingham City Council [2011] EWHC 944 (Admin), the High Court granted a declaration that the council's decisions in November 2010 and March 2011 to terminate funding to three voluntary organisations providing legal entitlement advice were unlawful, as they were taken without due regard to the race and disability public sector equality duties under section 71 of the Race Relations Act 1976 and section 49A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. The transcript of this case has only recently become available.
