Automatic enrolment scheme

A pension scheme in which an employer in the UK must automatically enrol an eligible jobholder ( www.practicallaw.com/2-521-1968) once it becomes subject to the Pensions Act 2008, unless the jobholder is already an active member ( www.practicallaw.com/5-107-6355) of a qualifying scheme ( www.practicallaw.com/2-521-1751) on his automatic enrolment date. An automatic enrolment scheme must also be a qualifying scheme. In addition, the scheme must contain no barriers to entry in its rules nor any provisions requiring a new joiner to make any choice or provide any information to remain an active member.
