Council entitled to exclude all protesters from council chamber to suppress or prevent disorderly conduct (High Court)

On 31 October 2014, in Laporte and another v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis [2014] EWHC 3574 the High Court rejected the claimants' claim for damages against the defendant for assault and battery, false imprisonment and malicious prosecution and a declaration that their rights under Articles 10 and 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights had been breached. The court also confirmed that the London Borough of Haringey had been entitled to exercise its power to exclude all the protesters from the civic centre.
