Competent authority

In the context of the functions referred to in Part IV of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (www.practicallaw.com/A36104), the Financial Conduct Authority (www.practicallaw.com/A36105) (FCA) or an authority exercising functions corresponding to the functions referred to in Part IV of the Financial Services and Markets Act under the laws of another EEA state.

This term has a different meaning in other contexts, in particular in relation to parts of the FCA Handbook (www.practicallaw.com/5-107-6609).
