Assets Recovery Agency (ARA)

The ARA was abolished on 1 April 2008 - its functions have been merged with the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) ( www.practicallaw.com/8-380-9976) . The ARA was an independent government department established under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. It used to carry out investigations leading to the confiscation of the proceeds of crime, the recovery of those proceeds by civil proceedings and the taxing of criminal proceeds.
