BERR publishes Government's response to the Competition Commission's investigation into the supply of groceries in the UK

On 29 July 2008, the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) published the Government's response to the Competition Commission's market investigation into the supply of groceries in the UK. The Government welcomed the Competition Commission's report and sets out its response to the recommendations made by the Competition Commission that require Government action in relation to the planning regime, the amendment or repeal of the exclusion of land agreements from the Chapter I prohibition of the Competition Act 1998, and various supply chain practices should the Competition Commission not be able to obtain undertakings from grocery retailers in relation to the establishment of a Grocery Supply Code of Practice (GSCOP) and Ombudsman.
