Additional adoption leave (AAL)

A period of 26 weeks' statutory leave which follows an employee's ordinary adoption leave (OAL) ( www.practicallaw.com/1-200-3398) . The qualifying criteria for AAL are that:

  • The child was placed with the employee for adoption.

  • The employee took OAL in respect of the child.

  • The employee's OAL did not end prematurely because the placement of the child was disrupted or because the employee was dismissed.
