Paternity leave

A note outlining the statutory rights of the spouse, partner or civil partner of a child's mother or adopter to paternity leave following the birth or adoption of a child.

Additional paternity leave (APL) is no longer available and has been replaced by the shared parental leave (SPL) scheme for parents of babies with an EWC on or after 5 April 2015, or of children placed for adoption on or after that date. For information on SPL, see Shared parental leave and pay: toolkit.
