CJC working group on impact of Jackson reforms

A new Civil Justice Council (CJC) working group has been set up to consider and advise on issues arising from the Jackson/civil litigation reforms.
A new Civil Justice Council (CJC) working group has been set up for the purpose of advising the CJC on issues arising from the implementation of the Jackson/civil litigation reforms. The members of the group are Alistair Kinley (Chair), Steven Green, Mark Harvey, David Johnson, Maura McIntosh, John Mead, Professor Rachael Mulheron, Andrew Ritchie QC, Jenny Screech and Peter Smith. A district judge will also be included.
In particular, the group will report on:
  • Transitional questions in conditional fee agreement (CFA) cases due to changes in a client's or lawyer's status, or basis of instruction, happening after commencement.
  • Arguments concerning the extension of qualified one-way costs shifting (QOCS) to other categories of cases, such as actions against the police or solicitors' professional negligence in injury claims.
The group will also consider other relevant topics, including points raised at the CJC event held on 21 March 2014 (see Legal update, CJC event on the impact of the Jackson reforms: some key messages).
The group's first meeting was held in June 2014.
