Jurisdiction: Recast Brussels Regulation

This note explains the jurisdictional rules in Regulation (EU) 1215/2012 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 12 December 2012 on jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters (Recast Brussels Regulation).

The Recast Brussels Regulation regulates jurisdiction in civil and commercial matters, principally where the defendant is domiciled in an EU member state, but also on the basis of other factors. It only applies in the UK where the proceedings were instituted before the end of the UK-EU transition period (31 December 2020).
