High Court quashes council's refusal to accommodate individual under Care Act 2014 provisions

The High Court in R(SG) v London Borough of Haringey [2015] EWHC 2579 (Admin) has quashed a council's refusal to accommodate an individual under Care Act 2014 provisions. NOTE ADDED 24 MAY 2017: On 5 May 2017, the Court of Appeal in SG v Haringey [2017] EWCA Civ 322 dismissed the claimant's appeal against the High Court's decision, on the basis that the two paragraphs in the judgment that were relied on in the appeal, did not form any part of the reasoning that underpinned the judge's determination of the judicial review proceedings. The paragraphs were no more than passing commentary on an aspect of SG's case, which the judge expressly held was not an appropriate basis for determining the claim.
