In Re W (A Child) [2016] EWCA Civ 793, the court considered how the "nothing else will do" test should be applied to circumstances where the child has been placed with prospective adopters for a significant amount of time and birth relatives (with no existing relationship to the child) put themselves forward as carers late in the day.
