CPD points

CPD

For more information about solicitors' CPD requirements, see the SRA website. For barristers' CPD requirements, see the Bar Standards Board website. For more information about Chartered Secretaries CPD requirements see the ICSA website. Relevant Practical Law reading material, podcasts or webinars may meet ICSA informal or formal CPD requirements, depending on your individual needs.

E-learning

  • The PLC Magazine Update Programme provides a maximum of 12 SRA CPD hours per year (75% of the annual requirement). Chartered Secretaries may be able to count time spent doing the update programme towards their informal ICSA CPD.

Podcasts

The time you spend listening to a PLC Podcast may be counted towards your annual non-accredited SRA CPD requirement. You may claim a further half-hour's non-accredited CPD if you also take the accompanying quiz. You can then print a certificate for your records. Chartered Secretaries may be able to gain formal ICSA CPD by listening to a podcast.

If your firm is authorised by the SRA, you may claim accredited SRA CPD by listening to PLC Podcasts and then having a face-to-face discussion about them. You can claim the total time of the session provided it lasts at least an hour and the podcasts listened to comprise no more than half the total session. For full details check the SRA website at sra.org.uk.

    Events

    • Most PLC Events are accredited for CPD hours by the Law Society and the Bar Council. See individual events for details. Chartered Secretaries may be able to gain formal ICSA CPD with evidence of attendance.

    Webinars and films

You can also claim unaccredited CPD points for the time you spend watching a PLC training webinar or film, so long as the webinar or film is accompanied by a quiz, for example see our Bribery Act and Construction Act webinars. In these cases, simply print off the certificate for your records. Chartered Secretaries may be able to gain formal ICSA CPD by taking part in a webinar.

If your firm is authorised by the SRA, you may claim accredited SRA CPD by viewing a webinar and then having a face-to-face discussion about it. You can claim the total time of the session provided it lasts at least an hour and the webinar is no more than half the total session time. For full details check the SRA website at sra.org.uk.

PLC Training sessions

  • If your organisation has been accredited with the SRA to carry out your own training, you are able to cite PLC Training on our web services as creditable hours, using the CPD reference for your organisation.
