Do I have to enter my username and password each time I log in?
If you'd prefer not to log in every time you visit Practical Law, leave the 'Remember me' checkbox ticked when entering your user name and password on the log in screen. You will then remain logged in on that computer until you click Log out.
Can I log in from outside the office?
You can access Practical Law from any computer with internet access. Simply enter your username and password in the Log in fields in the top navigation.
If your organisation has an IP-authenticated account, you may need to request an individual user name and password to enable you to log in to Practical Law from outside the office.

What are my subscription details?
Once you are logged in, you can view your subscription details by clicking on My Practical Law in the mega-menu. In My account click on View and edit your account. Click on View account subscriptions.

Can I log onto Practical Law from two devices?
You can be logged in to Practical Law from two devices simultaneously. If you want to try and access our website from a third device (for example, a work computer in a different office) you will be logged out of the first device you logged into. This is a security device to make sure that Practical Law's logins and passwords remain unique and are not shared around.
I don't understand something you've written. How can I get clarification?
Our team of experts are available to answer your questions every working day. If you would like to ask them to expand on something we've written, simply click Ask a question in the top right-hand side of the page. You can also browse other queries and share your knowledge at Ask
How do I gain CPD points through your site?

How do I search for resources?
You can filter your search results by resource type, topic, practice area and jurisdiction. You can also search maintained resources only, by exact phrases, and sort your results by relevance or date.

How do I sign up for e-mail alerts?
Click on My Practical Law in the mega-menu at the top of the page. Under My account click on View and edit your account. Click on View and edit e-mail preferences. You can choose which e-mails you would like to receive, how often and the format you would like your e-mails delivered in. You can choose from daily, weekly and monthly e-mails in the practice areas relevant for you.
Where do you get your content from?
Our team is made up of more than 300 experts worldwide with experience gained from practising in law firms, companies, professional services organisations and regulatory and public bodies. They create and continually maintain our resources. We also work with expert contributors from leading law firms, barrister chambers and organisations around the world.

Where can I watch webinars or listen to podcasts?

How do I check if a resource is up-to-date?
Our resources are either "maintained" or have a "publication" or "law stated" date. This appears under the title. Where material is maintained, we carry out regular reviews of the resource and update it as soon as possible after a relevant legal development. You can track this by selecting Show resource history from the Actions box on the right-hand side of the page. Materials with a publication date or law stated date are not maintained and users should check the date on them before relying on their contents.
As a guide, we maintain all practice notes and standard documents. We don't maintain point-in-time content such as legal updates or case reports.
How do you maintain your resources?
We monitor thousands of paper and website sources daily to identify developments that have a practical impact on the work of front-line lawyers, and continually update our practice notes, standard documents and clauses, and checklists. You can check whether a resource has been updated by viewing the status under the title of the document. You can also click Show resource history in the Actions box.
Can I access legal books through your website?
You can access online English law, Scots law and tax titles from publisher Bloomsbury Professional through Practical Law. A subscription to online books enables your entire organisation to access books for 12 months. We also offer extended free trials. How do I view a resource's history?
All maintained materials have a resource history, which identifies recent amendments we have made. This allows you to confirm that we have picked up a specific case or procedural change. To see the resource history, select Show resource history from the Actions box on the right-hand side of the page.
How do I find out which resources you're planning to publish?
Each service has a provisional publishing schedule which covers the next six to 12 months. You can find the link under About this practice area in the Resources tab in the relevant practice area’s homepage.
How can I see when you've published new resources?
You can keep up-to-date on the latest resources we've published by signing up to weekly e-mail updates in your practice area. You can also check Legal updates and case reports on the relevant practice area homepage which features some of our latest updates.
How do you ensure your resources reflect current market practice?
We monitor thousands of paper and website sources daily to identify developments that have a practical impact on the work of front-line lawyers and continually update our resources.
The regular dialogue we have with our subscribers through Ask keeps us at the heart of practice. How do I get training to use the site?
We offer all our subscribers free training on how to use our online services. You can choose a format that suits your needs: site visits or remote training, group demonstrations or one-to-one sessions. Sessions typically last an hour and can range from basic demos, refresher courses to more advanced scenario-based training.
Can I access case law from your site?
We have inserted new pop-up links to cases in our maintained resources which will appear when you click on a reference to a case. If you are a Westlaw UK subscriber you can click through directly to a case report or transcript on Westlaw UK. You can also click through to the free BAILII transcript (where the case is available on www.bailii.org). We have also created case pages, a new resource type which contains links to case transcripts on Westlaw UK and BAILII and any related Practical Law resources.
In time we hope that you will also be able to click through from our resources and cases to the case transcripts and reports on Westlaw UK and the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting (ICLR).
Can I access legislation from your site?
Subscribers to both Westlaw UK and Practical Law can click through from Practical Law resources to a piece of legislation or provision on Westlaw UK. You can also access free consolidated UK and EU legislation on Legislation.gov.uk, the official source of all UK legislation, and EUR-Lex from Practical Law resources.
Are FirmStyle and FastDraft included in my subscription?

How can I integrate Practical Law content onto my intranet?
We offer a range of integration options to help you access Practical Law know-how without disturbing your routine and extract maximum value from your subscription. You can surface RSS feeds of Practical Law updates on your intranet, download documents in your house style and create and share notes on resources with colleagues. We also offer a range of search technology options to enable you to search across your internal and Practical Law know-how.

Sessions last an hour and range from basic demos to more advanced scenario-based training, according to your requirements. Training can be delivered face-to-face or online, and in presentation, classroom or one-to-one format.

Meet the team
Robert Quarm graduated in Philosophy from the University of Hertfordshire. He has worked for IBM and Reuters, training on the financial markets for the latter as well as managing a set of accounts for Factiva the global number one news and information provider. He then opened and ran Red House in Kent for the National Trust for three years, managing the business and creating a strategy for its future. Robert currently trains small and medium law firms across the UK.
Hugo Sleiman worked at Clifford Chance supporting their Commercial team and working on developing their internal online products for three years after which he joined PLC as a trainer.
Tim Wheatley joined PLC in 2008 as an experienced trainer. His previous roles encompassed the formation of a training team within a small software house as well as delivering training nationally with Halifax PLC. Tim's experience lies in group training as well as more intense 1:1 sessions.
Neil Marshall graduated from ICADE University in Madrid in International Business. He then gained an MSc in Human Resource Management at the University of London. Neil has worked for the European Commission in Brussels and the Delegation for the European Commission in Malaysia. Jamey Scroder has 15 years experience of working in the UK, Offshore and Internationally within the banking and wealth services industry and undertaken various roles including Business Development, Sales team management and more recently Training. Jamey’s key responsibilities have included the migration of a contact centre to Malaysia, designing and delivering bespoke training material for an Offshore contact centre in the Channel Islands including soft skills and IT and delivering sales and propositional training to customer facing relationship managers within the Central London region.
