Nature of practice and clients
Founded in 1930 as "Simitis" Law Offices by George Simitis, a commercial law professor at the Athens School of Economic Studies, the firm was orientated towards intellectual and industrial property law, technology law, commercial law, corporate law and competition law from the outset. In the 1960s and 1970s the firm enlarged its partnership to include many leading Greek academics and practitioners. The firm was re-named in the 1980s, under its current partnership (George Ballas and Gregory Pelecanos), and evolved to become a full-service law firm, organised into specialist practice groups, which added new expertise and further strengthened and broadened its traditional core areas of practice.
The firm's current practice embraces the whole spectrum of business law. It includes the following main divisions: intellectual and industrial property; marketing and advertising; consumer protection; corporate and commercial law (including company, competition, tax, privatisations and labour law matters).
Traditionally, the firm has had, and maintains, a very strong international client base, representing many of the most renowned international corporations. Its members offer legal advice and undertake litigation on all aspects of Greek and European Union corporate and commercial law.
