Countdown to Jackson
We are delighted to invite you to our Spring 2013 Birmingham Roadshow event, kindly hosted by Eversheds. The "big bang" implementation of sweeping civil litigation reforms is now just weeks away, so we will be outlining some of the key changes, and highlighting the practical implications for dispute resolution lawyers.
We have a first-class line-up of speakers:
- Professor Rachael Mulheron, Queen Mary, University of London, a member of the CJC working party on damages based agreements (DBAs).
- His Honour Judge Simon Brown QC, who has particular costs management expertise having been instrumental in the first costs management pilot scheme in Birmingham and is well-known for his hands-on approach to costs management.
There will be two formal presentations:
- Getting to grips with DBAs - Professor Mulheron will explain how DBAs (which, from 1 April 2013, will be permitted for contentious work for the first time) are intended to operate, and highlight some potentially tricky points for practitioners to grapple with.
- Jackson nuts and bolts - His Honour Judge Simon Brown QC will provide a run-down of some of the key reforms, and highlight the need for a real culture change in the approach to litigation.
These will be followed by a panel Q&A session, when His Honour Judge Simon Brown QC and Professor Mulheron will be joined by Mark Surguy, Partner, Eversheds and Beverley Barton and Susan Scott, editors in the Practical Law Dispute Resolution team. They will do their best to field your questions on the forthcoming reforms.
Spaces are limited, and will be allocated on a first come first served basis, so please do let us know as soon as possible, if you would like to attend, to avoid disappointment.
